Well, that’s true unless you support Everton Football Club (EFC). Everton are one of those clubs that don’t do things easily, if there’s a difficult way of doing it, they’ll find it.
Last night was a prime example, after a poor first leg in the UEFA cup, they knew exactly what was needed and instead they let this Ukraine side Metalist get on top by scoring a goal. Nervous? You bet.
Overall the game was seriously lacking the first half. Everton really lacked any punch or drive and a lucky goal by Lescott at the start of the second half was a welcome relief that was etched on Moyes’ face.
However not long after sloppy defending again by Yobo and they’re 2-1 up for the night (3-2 on agg). That was the lowest of all the lows in the game, well perhaps Jagielka’s passing was worse…
Then the joy returns, McFadden scores a great goal, a nice turn and without looking up slots it into the corner of the goal from the edge of the box, 2-2 (3-3 agg) and if it stays like that we’re home and dry on the away goal rule, hope beyond hope that we don’t go all defensive …
On comes Baines, left back … and it’s backs against the wall again, crosses, quality passing from metalist and last ditch tackles by defenders, with Hibbert looking to come on to stalwart our 5 man defence … Anachibie chases down a lost cause and puts a defender under pressure, his header back to the keeper has no power on it and Anachibie pounces onto it and scores.
2-3 on the night (3-4 on agg), a poor game, Arteta wasn’t firing and the back 4 really struggled with the passing. How Moyes could play Osman & Jag’s in the middle in Europe when they’ve never played together in the Premiership is beyond me.
Mr Moyes the verdict is out on your negative defensive play. You’ve won in Europe, but the real work starts on Sunday with an away match against the barcodes. It’s must win and Sam usually has Everton in his pocket, so it’s going to be another tough game Sunday.
